WHAT WINERIES NEED TO DO?

After December 8, 2023, wine produced, labelled and sold into the EU must disclose ingredients, allergens, energy, and nutrition information according to Regulation (EU) 2021/2117.

A QR code may be used to digitally view these new EU requirements. Allergens and intolerances must appear on or be physically attached to the product.

All wine that does not comply with these new EU regulations, must be removed from the market and may have penalties applied as well, according to the law. See

E.U. 1306/2013 Chapter IV, Article 89.

Ingredients must be listed in descending order of weight as they were used during the manufacturing of the wine. Ingredients that make up less than 2% of the finished product may be listed in any order, after the other ingredients. Refer to ANNEX VII of EU 169/2011

The law requires nutritional and energy information based on a 100ml serving.
